American Idol producers have gotten themselves into a pickle by making the unprecedented decision to add a 13th contestant to this year’s lineup. In the past, the FOX talent series has used numbers 1-866-IDOLS-01 through 1-866-IDOLS-12 for fans to use when voting for their favorite contestant. But, as TV Guide has learned, the addition of a 13th competitor poses a problem for the long-standing voting system because 1-866-IDOLS-13 is currently the number of a phone sex operation.

“Crap, were gonna have a problem on Idol tonight—just dialed 1-866-IDOLS-13 and its not quite SFW,” host Ryan Seacrest twittered this morning.

Have no fear, says Idol producer Megan Michaels. Tonight’s show will continue to use 1-866-436-5701 through 1-866-436-5712 for the first 12 contestants but Contestant 13 will get “a special new Idol number.

“We’ll make sure people dial carefully tonight,” Megan says. “We will not allude to the fact of 1-3 because we don’t even want to endorse that, you know.”
